  • Welcome to Ill Communication, Copywriting, Tips and sales strategies for small Business. I'm your host, Kim Keel. I'm a copy coach, sales strategist and direct response copywriter. It's my mission to help women leaders and change makers amplify their voices through copy. It's why I'm dishing out all the juicy tips, writing prompts and sales formulas to help you generate more leads, book more calls, and get more high value clients on repeat. Sounds pretty good. It's time to ditch the overwhelm you might be feeling and find confidence in your copywriting so you can get your message out there and attract more soulmate clients. Let's get started. Hey there. I'm recording this episode the day after Netflix pretty much shat the bed by not being able to deliver on the province of live streaming. The much anticipated Love is Blind Reunion show. Whether you're a fan of the show or not, if you are on social media last night or today, which is around April 17th, you no doubt saw posts of people disappointed they couldn't tune into Netflix's much hyped live streamed show. People started talking about it last night and they'll probably be talking about it for a few days or even longer, which gives you a great opportunity to leverage this trending news event to create copy or content for your business. Hey, Hey and welcome to episode 39 of the Ill Communication podcast. And today I'm popping in with a quick writing prompt for you. The writing prompt is what blank means for your industry or what we can learn from Blank and Blank refers to a trending topic or a hot pop culture reference.

You take something that's trending on social media or in the news and create a post inspired by or referencing it. So let's take The Love Is Blind Fiasco. If you are a PR or crisis communications firm, you might share tips for handling a media crisis like The Missing Love Is Blind Episode. If you're a customer service expert, you could share five ways Netflix should have handled and communicated about the snafu. If you're a branding expert, you could talk about personal branding for each of the participants. For example, maybe Irina would be positioned as a villain or bad girl brand, whereas Marshall may be more the guy next door brand. And if you're an expert in podcast interviews, maybe you'd point out the do's and don'ts of interviewing and hosting using Nick and Vanessa Leach's example from the event, which, based on what I'm seeing online, wasn't very good either. But full disclosure, I wasn't able to access the live stream last night, and I haven't had a chance to watch the recording yet. But to be honest, I'm not even sure I want to waste my time and energy because I haven't heard a lot of great things about it. But I digress. Using something that's trending in pop culture can be a great hook or idea for your content.

You could take a very serious approach or make it a little more lighthearted and entertaining. After you write your post or your email, it's time to come up with your headlines and subject lines. And here are a few examples to get you started. What we can learn from the Netflix fiasco or What We Can learn From Kim Kardashian. Five Marketing Lessons from the King's Coronation. What Climate change means for Realtors or what the crypto collapse means for investors. You'll find limitless content ideas when you look at what's trending in the news or pop culture. Just a small word of warning. You should choose a trending topic you are at least a little familiar with. Don't write about Love is Blind or the Kardashians. If you aren't a fan or you haven't seen the shows. Even if you're being critical, it helps if you have a decent understanding or background in whatever you're referencing. For example, I would never write a post or email referencing cryptocurrency or the Silicon Valley Bank Collapse or Star Trek Picard. But if Star Trek Picard is your jam, go for it.
